Ian Mathieson

BUSINESS COACHING

Once used to bolster troubled staffers, coaching now is part of the standard leadership development training for elite executives and talented up-and-comers at IBM, Motorola, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and Hewlett Packard. These companies are discreetly giving their best prospects what star athletes have long had: a trusted adviser to help reach their goals.

Ian is an experienced coach, having worked in that capacity with chief executives, senior and middle managers for more than twenty years. All coaching is completely confidential.

His method and framework relies on encouraging and guiding the coaching partner in a journey of exploration. Rather than teach, he assists his coaching partner in exploring their current capacities, identifying where they wish to strengthen capacities, setting goals for their development and providing or sourcing resources for that development.

Ian’s framework for coaching includes selected psychometric instruments, a range of self-assessment tools, training needs analysis, feedback mechanisms, resource material, exercises, third-party discussions or training.

In 2014, as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, Ian led a Queensland pilot program in establishing a for-Members AIM mentoring program. In 2001 by invitation he participated as a mentor in the Graduate MBA program of the UCLA, Los Angeles.

TAE has utilised Ian Mathieson to mentor and coach our highest performers for many years with great success. His ability to tailor this support to individual needs is a strength. His work is seen as a highly cost effective means by which our most important resource, can comfortably grow and more effectively perform. As a past recipient of this coaching, I would recommend this support to all.
